Florida program helping first-time homebuyers expands

The Hometown Heroes Program initially helped people, such as veterans, teachers, nurses and law enforcement, purchase homes.

This unique Florida program has provided more than $100 million in assistance to help overcome the burden of down payments. The program received $100 million in just fiscals years 2023 and 2024 by the Florida legislature.

It is a second mortgage," Steve Harbuck, a realtor in Winter Park said. "So as far as I've read, you can receive up to 5% of the purchase amount at a cap of $35,000 dollars towards your down payment and closing costs."
